25 Years Later: Sacred Stories

As I send out this week’s edition of the e-news, I’m mindful that this week isn’t just any week, and this day isn’t just any day. It is September 11, 2026 — twenty-five years to the day since the tragic events that are captured in that single phrase: “9/11.” It’s hard to believe that twenty-five years have passed since that day. Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself in the same conversation, over and over… a conversation that begins with the words: “Where were you on 9/11?”
Anyone who is old enough to remember that day remembers where they were on that day. Over the years, and especially in recent weeks, I have heard so many of these stories.
I think there is power in telling our stories. There is power in naming those who lost their lives that day, and in naming our grief as we continue to mourn them. There is power in simply taking the moment to recall where you were, whom you were with, and what you felt on that day. There is power — and release, and even peace — in sharing stories, sharing burdens, sharing experiences.
So in honor of the 25th anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, I wanted to create this sacred online space for you to share your stories, your memories, your experience of that day. I offer it as an invitation for healing and memorial. If you give permission, we may seek appropriate and meaningful ways to share your story with the wider congregation. May God use the telling and sharing of these stories to bring us greater peace.
Blessings,
Pastor Candy
