Urgent! Muscle is needed on Saturdays at the Lehigh Valley Outreach Depot. August is vacation time for many of our volunteers. It’s also a busy time as families are relocating from shelters and other temporary living situations ahead of the school year. Our urgent need is for strong individuals to help load clients’ trucks to take their furniture home. Can you spare a few Saturday hours to help out? A few hours, a few Saturdays, a few months – any donated time is appreciated! We are an approved BASD community service nonprofit.
For more information, or to volunteer, please leave a message at the Depot at 610-351-1616 or email Becky Hess.

Each year, as the children and youth of our congregation head back to school, we seek to send them with blessings and prayers! On Sunday August 23 during our 10:00 AM worship service, we invite all children and youth of Wesley to bring their backpacks to worship. During the service, we’ll offer prayers for the students and their upcoming school year — and offer each of the students a gift! For more information, please contact Pastor Candy

Delve deeper into the biblical text than you ever have before… by studying it in its original language! Deborah Appler, a member of our Wesley community and professor emerita of Hebrew Bible at Moravian University School of Theology, will guide us in a study of biblical Hebrew. The study group will take place on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of each month,12:00-1:30 PM, in the Library, beginning May 17. Before the first session, please order a copy of Matthew Richard Schlimm’s 70 Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know.
For more information, please contact Deborah Appler. To register, please contact Pastor Candy.

Join us for an exciting quest to find the mysterious Infinity Lanterns to help light our way. Using map coordinates from our Reference Book, the Bible, children will discover clues to how God’s light shines in the lives of familiar biblical characters in Old and New Testament stories and how we can shine God’s light every day.
Registration is open to children ages 4 – 5th grades. Older children are welcome to volunteer and encouraged to sign up as group guides, station helpers, decorators, and set up.
Email Ms. Deb with any questions. Children@wesleychurch.com.

As you read each scripture verse (and on the larger passages of which they are a part), replace the words “believe” or “belief” with “trust,” and reflect on the impact that has on your reading.
Mark 1:15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”
Mark 9:24 Immediately the father of the child cried out, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
Luke 8:50 When Jesus heard this, he replied, “Do not be afraid. Only believe, and she will be saved.”
John 1:12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”
John 12:46 “I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness.”
John 14:1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”
John 14:12-14 “Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.”
John 20:29-31 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.” Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.
Romans 4:3 For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.”
Romans 10:9-14 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart, leading to righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, leading to salvation. The scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him?
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13-14 In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory.
1 Peter 1:8-9 Although you have not seen him, you love him, and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
1 John 4:1-2 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.
