Catching Up with Pastor Candy
This week, the weather finally cooperated and we were able to participate in New Bethany Ministries’ Luminaria Night! It is such a gift to join in this city-wide glow for such a good cause. Even Santa helped place a few luminaries! Many thanks to Deb Silliman, our Director of Children’s Ministries, for coordinating this event.

Book Study: Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff ….
Is life getting to you lately? Could you use less stress and more calm?
Join us for a read and share study of the book, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff… and it’s all small stuff: Simple Ways to Keep The Little Things From Taking Over Your Life by Richard Carlson, PH.D.
For this study, you will be reading 2 short readings a day. Really short…the book is 5.5 by 6.5 inches, and most readings are just both sides of one page! The idea is to read one in the morning and one in the evening so that you have time to think about each reading. You may take notes if you would like, so you remember your reactions to the readings.
Once a week on Monday evenings from 7-8 PM, participants will get together on Zoom and talk about the readings together. What did you like? What bothered you? Is his advice Biblical? Which readings were especially helpful? What questions do you have because of the readings? What advice can you give to someone else’s question? You get the idea.
There are 100 readings in the book, so this will be a 7 week study and the first week you will have 2 additional readings to cover them all. I will ask you to each get your own copies of the book, which is from 1997, and is widely available new and used. This is the original book, not one of the spin-offs. The ISBN number on my paperback copy is 0-7868-8185-2 and it is by Hyperion. There are different covers out there for the same book.
This is a note from the Amazon Website:
During his life, Richard Carlson, Ph.D, was considered one of the foremost experts in happiness and stress reduction in the United States and around the world and was a frequent featured guest on such shows as Oprah, The Today Show, The View, NNC, CNN, Fox, PBS and over 2000 other shows. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff continued to be a publishing phenomenon with over 20 titles in the brand franchise, two of which were co-authored and authored with his beloved wife, Kris. He died of a pulmonary embolism in December 2006, at the age of forty-five.
The words “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” have become a part of American Culture thanks to Richard Carlson’s book that became a runaway best-seller and made publishing history as the #1 best-selling book in the United States for two consecutive years.
Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff spent over 100 weeks on the New York Times Best-Seller list and is still considered one of the fastest selling books of all time and has sold over 15 million copies worldwide.
