We’re once again celebrating the “big game” by holding our own Souperbowl! Between now and Sunday, February 13, please bring cans of soup (as well as canned pasta, boxes of mac-and-cheese, and other non-perishables) to church and place them on the Souperbowl table. All donations will benefit the New Bethany Food Pantry.

This week, it was my joy to gather with the incredible staff of Wesley Church! During our time together, we brainstormed ways to combine our efforts in cooperative ministry, and we spent some time connecting with our new Pastor of Congregational Care! I am so grateful for the tireless, faithful work of these staff members.

In the coming week, please reach out to offer them your words of thanks as well!

• SITTING AT THE FEET OF RABBI JESUS by Ann Spangler and Lois Tverberg looks at how Jesus’ Jewishness infuses his message and his preaching style.

Our Friday morning children’s storytimes have started up again. We always enjoy reading to the little ones in Circle of Friends preschool, and we have a fine collection of picture books for them to borrow.

This Lent, we’ll be joining with churches throughout the North District for this year’s district-wide Bible study, “Fathers and Daughters.” The study will include video teaching (featuring some of our North District pastors) and small group discussions. 

District Superintendent Steve Morton writes: “Admittedly, father-daughter relationships are among the least developed stories in the biblical narrative, with daughters often isolated as the most absent member of the family, or overwhelmed (even victimized) within a largely patriarchal culture. Our study does not look for any “common theme” within these stories, but rather aims to familiarize ourselves with various accounts of father-daughter narratives: to learn, to be challenged, perhaps to enjoy! And within the dialogue among ourselves, no doubt to reveal some of our own family dynamics which play a role in our Christian discipleship today.”
