Traditionally, worship services on Maundy Thursday (the Thursday before Easter, this year on April 6) include a ritual of footwashing. This ritual recalls the moment at the Last Supper when Jesus knelt before his disciples and humbly washed their feet. Here at Wesley Church, we seek to reimagine the act of footwashing — an act that, in Jesus’ day, met a basic and tangible need. Each year, we sponsor a Maundy Thursday collection drive that enables us to meet needs and bless feet in our community.
This year, our collection drive will benefit the work of Victory House, an organization in Bethlehem that offers resources and transitional housing to men in our community who lack adequate and stable shelter. We will collect shower shoes to distribute to the guests at the Victory House shelter. We welcome your donations of men’s waterproof shower shoes (size large or 10/11). Help us meet our goal of collecting 80 pairs of shoes! Visit our Wish List to get shopping ideas, or to purchase a pair to be shipped directly to the church. All donations are due by Easter Sunday, April 9. Thank you for your generosity!
