Today’s offering in our continually-unfolding musical celebration is a gift from our Celebration Ringers, directed by Frank Arbushites. Today, they offer their bell choir rendition of Isaac Watts’ hymn “Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed.”
While much of the hymn focuses on themes of repentance and forgiveness, the final verse offers a call to — and perhaps even a prayer of — discipleship. It reads:
But drops of tear can ne’er repay
the debt of love I owe.
Here, Lord, I give myself away;
‘tis all that I can do.
(United Methodist Hymnal, #294)
As you listen, may you echo those words as your own prayer, offering yourself to the God who has fully offered God’s own Self for you.
