As a pastor and as a musician, one of the things I miss in our new (and temporary) “normal” of worship in COVID-tide is the sound of our musical ensembles. Once, our worship was filled with their musical offerings of praise! One day, it will be again.
In the meantime, our music ensemble directors and members have been hard at work. They have found new and creative ways of rehearsing, and have embraced online platforms to share their gifts. Throughout the season of Lent, we will be sharing some of their musical offerings with you as part of our daily devotionals.
It’s my hope that these musical gifts will nourish your souls as they bring glory to God!

Today’s musical offering comes from our youth bell choir, the “Klangchor,” directed by Frank Arbushites. It is a chime choir rendition of the hymn “Breathe on Me, Breath of God.” The first verse of the hymn reads:
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
fill me with life anew,
that I may love what thou dost love,
and do what thou wouldst do.
(UMH, #420)
In this season of COVID-tide and its ongoing respiratory pandemic, we’re mindful of the power of breath, the fragility of our own breath, the sacredness of divine Breath.
In this season of Lent, we seek for God to breathe some holy transformation in our lives, that we may come to love what God loves and do what God would do.

May God’s holy, transformative Breath breathe on you, and remember:
Our God is bigger than coronavirus.
Our vision is bigger than coronavirus, too.
We are people blessing people.
