Devotional February 24, 2021

Dear Church,

Each Wednesday, my church-wide message will include a word of scripture and a “call to prayer,” as we encourage you to share your prayer requests with our pastoral staff and prayer team.

In this strange and uncertain season of COVID-tide, may we find ourselves rooted in prayer!

Like so many of you, I’ve spent this past week praying for our brothers and sisters in the state of Texas.

I’m praying for those who have spent this week trying to stay warm in homes that were designed to keep heat out, rather than keep it in. 

I’m praying for those who have spent this week boiling their water… and for those who have no water to boil. 

I’m praying for those who have spent this week standing in lines waiting for the necessities: food, fuel, and water. 

I’m praying for the people of San Antonio… including a friend’s daughter, who is living on her own for the first time, trying to navigate the unprecedented. 

I’m praying for the people of Houston… including a colleague’s daughter, awaiting care packages from family a thousand miles away. 

I’m praying for the people of Dallas… including a friend from seminary, with whom I haven’t yet been able to get in touch. 

And I’m praying for those who are helping: those sharing resources, those distributing supplies, those raising funds, those lifting spirits. 

I hope you’ll add them all to your prayers, church.
