The Fourth Day:
Four Calling Birds
Theories abound as to what type of bird this mysterious “calling bird” is… but I think we can assume one thing: a “calling bird” is not silent! It calls. It sings out its song. It makes its presence known. A true “calling bird” is not silent!
As Christian people, we are not called to be silent. We are called to speak… and in particular, we are called to speak up for justice.
On this fourth day, take a moment to reflect on the injustices in God’s world. Do some research and educate yourself on some problem, some issue that is important to. Listen to those who agree with you, and to those who disagree with you. Seek out the voices of those who might otherwise go unheard, and learn from their experiences. Reach out to local, state, and federal government leaders about the issues that matter to you. Visit the website of the United Methodist General Board of Church & Society (www.umcjustice.org) to learn more about the ways our denomination is advocating for justice in God’s world. Take time to grow in your own sense of justice, that you may lift up your voice in advocacy.
And remember, friends:
Our God is bigger than coronavirus.
Our vision is bigger than coronavirus, too.
We are people blessing people.
We are Wesley Church.
