It has long been one of my favorite hymns, so I’m grateful for the opportunity to share it with you. Our devotional musical offerings continue with our Klangchor (Youth Bell Choir – directed by Frank Arbushites) and their rendition of the hymn “Be Thou My Vision.”
I’ve always been drawn to the traditional Irish melody of this hymn, and moved by its words… but this year, in this season of COVID-tide, I find myself particularly struck by the closing verse:
Great God of heaven, my victory won,
may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
(United Methodist Hymnal, #451)
“Whatever befall.” No matter what has befallen us over this past year, and no matter what may befall us in the future, may God truly be our vision, our wisdom, our heart.

May you be moved by this hymn, “whatever befall”… and may you remember:
Our God is bigger than coronavirus.
Our vision is bigger than coronavirus, too.
We are people blessing people.
