We continue to be blessed by the gifts of Wesley’s dedicated musicians! Today, in keeping with the meaning of Maundy Thursday, the members of the Chancel Choir offer their latest musical selection.
Chancel Choir director Becky Graybeal writes:
“When You Prayed Beneath the Trees”, words written by Christopher Idle and music by Lloyd Larson, is a stirring piece that invites us to reflect on Jesus’ journey during Holy Week. These compelling lyrics draw a connection between the trees under which Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane and the references in scripture of the cross being called a tree. We are further reminded of the sacrifice Christ made for each of us, and His love outpoured in prayer, blood, sweat and tears, and the sacrifice Christ made as He carried the cross and ultimately offered up His life. As we reflect on this powerful message, may we be drawn closer to Christ and the journey He made for you and for me. We give thanks to you, O Lord.
Many thanks to the instrumentalists who offered their gifts for this recording!
Jack Huie – French Horn
Will Lotto – Cello
Becky Graybeal – Flute
