The mission of the Wesley Church Community Garden is to provide fresh, nutritionally-rich, locally-grown produce to area food pantries in a way that reflects the collective contribution of members of the community in which we live and work. The garden program includes participants from Wesley Church and the wider community.
Since its founding in 2011, the Wesley Church Community Garden plots have yielded more than 7,000 pounds of produce donations. In recent years, we have even taken advantage of the ample sunlight in the Wesley Church atrium to begin growing seedlings before the start of the planting season – transforming our church building into a greenhouse!
Each growing season, gardeners tend their own plots and participate in larger garden-wide projects. In signing up for a garden plot, each gardener agrees to donate at least 50% of his or her produce yield to area food pantries. Twice each week, volunteers transport donated produce (as well as other non-perishable donations) to New Bethany Ministries, our primary donation recipient.
There are several ways to become involved in the Wesley Church Community Garden, including:
- Tending your own garden plot
- Assisting in larger garden-wide projects
- Joining the watering rotation (especially in late spring / early summer)
- Transporting donated produce to food pantries

Garden Updates
Plot Details
Currently, we have 8 plots available and 8 plots reserved. Plots are 4′ wide by 12′ long, and the cost per plot is $35. Plots can be reserved by writing a check to Wesley Church and specifying “Garden” in the memo line or sending $35 via Venmo (@ChristineBainbridge). Plots are first-come, first served and you are responsible for maintaining and watering your bed throughout the season. Once per week, we’ll all get together to tend to our plots (or come as is convenient for you). You will sign a garden agreement outlining our expectations and to ensure we’re all on the same page. Work Days
This season, we’ll be having Garden Work Days every Saturday from about 9 am – 11 am. Garden work days bring us all together to enjoy community, help each other out, and get some sunshine. On work days, the tool shed is open and you are welcome to use the tools inside (shovels, hoes, rakes, trowels, etc) as well as wooden stakes or tomato cages. If the weather is severe, we will most likely skip that week’s work day. Mowing and trimming will happen once (or sometimes twice) per week, typically on Sundays. You are welcome to come other days as you are able, just note if we are not there, you will need to bring your own tools.
Garden Orientation
Let’s meet one another, enjoy some snacks, and we’ll give you the tour of the garden and the shed, how to water, etc. Meet us in the garden, weather-permitting, on Sunday, June 4th after church, at about 11:30 am.
