The Second Day:
Two Turtle Doves
There’s a reason why the second gift is a gift of two turtle doves. Turtle doves always seem to come in pairs. Even in nature, each dove forms a very strong bond with one other dove. Because of this, the turtle dove has long been a symbol of love and relationships.
In some ways, we all do what turtle doves do. By and large, human beings — even the introverted among us — seek out the company of others. We seek community. We seek to be in relationships. Yet we also know that relationships don’t just happen. They take effort and require intentionality. That’s even more true in this season of COVID-tide, when social distancing prevents us from being in the same space together.
In your life, is there a relationship that could use more of your attention? On this second day, spend some time intentionally nurturing a relationship in your life — with a spouse, a parent, a child, a godchild, a new acquaintance, an old friend. Write a card, make a call, send a text… find some way to reach out and re-connect to nurture a relationship that is important to you!
