Familiar scripture for today, but the emphasis is not on money. Rather, it’s about what we have in general (not what we don’t) and how we use it. We won’t serve the church very well if we bury the physical gifts God has given. We have cars, houses, money, families, etc. How will we use these to glorify God? Our resources are part of what we have to offer.

Two theological presuppositions surround this part of understanding how God has created us to serve. 1) God is a person/has personality, as affirmed in the Trinity. 2) We are created in God’s image, as defined in Genesis. If God has personhood in the sense that God is “three-in-one,” and God created us in His image, then we, too, have personhood/a personality. We know ours is flawed, and does not fully reflect that of God, yet our personalities are gifts of the Creator, and help define who we are…and how we serve.
If you have trusted Christ, then you have a spiritual gift! Even if you don’t know what it is or don’t feel particularly gifted in a specific area, the Bible teaches that you do have a special gift that you can use to serve God. And, believe it or not, your gift is vital to the work of God in our church family, otherwise God would not have placed you here. Read more
