Sunday Worship Message, “Upon This Rock”
Journey of Stones Week #5: 5th Sunday in Lent
Matthew 16:13-20
Jesus asked his friends about his identity. They took a stab at it. Then he asked who THEY thought he was. And Peter, without hesitation (and perhaps without thinking) called Jesus the Christ. This Sunday we recognize the times we hesitate to share our faith or look for the Sunday School answer to describe our relationship with Jesus rather than offer our immediate, gut-level faith of a disciple like Peter.
Today, we let go of the stone of shaky faith, and re-confess that Jesus is Lord.
Next Week
Palm Sunday sends us into the final week of Jesus’ life. As we wave branches, we ask what kind of reception Jesus has in our own hearts? Some in our world would rather us be silent – to stop talking about Jesus. But then the very stones would cry out. This is no time to be quiet. In fact, has there ever been a more necessary time to shout his praises? The stone of silence – that which keeps us mute about the grace of God in Jesus Christ must be laid down.
