Job Description
Principle Focus:
Maintaining the cleanliness and readiness of the building on Sunday morning and as scheduled for evening and weekend events. Sunday Sexton/Event Custodian is responsible and answerable to the Church Office Manager, however the SPRC (in consultation with the Sr. Pastor) is responsible for assessing the effectiveness of all staff and for scheduling a time for an annual review.
Responsibilities:
- Opens the building on Sunday morning, monitoring the readiness of all areas and rooms to include furniture set ups
- Ready coffee urns for use by 9:30 am
- Remains actively available during Sunday morning schedule to aid staff and church leaders if facility or room use needs arise
- Clean up and restore building to normal order, assuring readiness of all areas and rooms for next use
- Secures ALL doors and turns off all lights/systems before exiting
- Responsible for training of all back up event custodians in conjunction with the Office Manager who maintains a list of available personnel
- Maintain a current journal of all procedures (SOP) for all duties relating to Sunday Sexton, Event Custodian and Janitorial services
- Maintain periodic availability for being “on call”
- Provide Janitorial cleaning services during off hours this includes providing clean and sanitary conditions in:
- All Classrooms, Bathrooms, Kitchen, Fellowship Hall, Sanctuary, Hallways and common areas.
- Sanitary conditions include wiping with disinfecting solutions, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to repeatedly lift 50 lbs.
- Set up/take down tables and chairs
- Walk, stand, bend, kneel, stretch
Hours:
- This position can have fluctuating hours from week to week
- 5-12 employable hours:
- Sexton: 7:30 am – 12:30 pm on Sunday mornings
- Janitorial: overnight hours preferred – estimation is nightly
- Event Custodian: As Needed
- Extra hours for additional events billed to individual events
Tasks:
- Check in with office manager and sr. Pastor to learn of any special needs that need to be addressed. Check the Sexton mailbox in the office for any relevant notes
- Sunday Mornings:
- Open Building, make sure all outside doors are unlocked and the automatic handicap access door is turned on
- Make coffee
- Turn on lights in main areas (atrium, hallway, restrooms, sanctuary)
- Unlock classroom doors
- Check restrooms for any needed supplies
- Unlock sacristy door, check sanctuary for service readiness (envelopes, pencils, attendance cards, general cleanliness)
- Place name tag board near sanctuary doors
- Set up middle school and celebration too classrooms as requested. Adult classrooms in chapel or FH as needed. After classes, reset all rooms ready for WCOF next day program
- After 9 am service, tidy up for 11 am service
- After 11 am Service:
- Walk through sanctuary and clean up left overs, move bulletins to recycling box
- Take fresh flowers to parlor – ensuring appropriate watering
- Return nametag board to hallway space by music room
- Clean and wipe refreshment tables
- Take coffee urns to kitchen, empty and rinse
- Collect trash and move it to dumpster
- Recheck restrooms for cleanliness and supplies – cleaning where necessary
- Sweep atrium floor, spot clean spills, vacuum carpets where necessary
- Turn off all lights, turn off handicap door, lock up
- Event Custodian
- Follow plan for table and chair set up, readying all rented room to requested format
- Ensure cleanliness of space before event begins
- Janitorial:
- Check all church spaces that are used by WCOF for cleanliness
- Sanctuary, classrooms, kitchen, bathroom
- Nightly cleaning to include:
- Clean and sanitize as appropriate
- Full vacuum/cleaning of Fellowship hall
- Full cleaning of bathrooms (toilets, sinks, mop floor)
- Sweep, vacuum, mop common areas requiring attention
- Restock supplies in bathrooms
- Take out any leftover trash
- Check all church spaces that are used by WCOF for cleanliness
