He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.”
-Mark 9:35, NRSV
Today, I’m praying for people who serve.
You know the type: the type of person who puts others’ needs first. The type of person who doesn’t clamor for the spotlight, for affirmation, for recognition. The kind of person who is selfless to the point of self-sacrificing. The type of person who embraces service and servanthood.
I’m mindful of those sorts of people, those servant-minded people, particularly on this Veterans Day. I’m giving thanks for those who have served in that way (and if you’re a veteran, I invite you to share that by responding to this email — I’d like to thank you personally for your service). Yet I’m also mindful of those who serve in so many selfless and self-sacrificing ways.
Friends, who are the people in your lives who embody selfless servanthood? Lift them up in prayer today.
