Daily Devotional May 8

5 You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. 6 Hear my prayer, LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. 7 When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me.
– Psalm 86:5-7, NIV

For the past two weeks, it’s been playing on repeat in my house: “O Lord, please hear my prayer.” Now, that might not be all that unexpected in a pastor’s house… but it’s not playing on repeat because of my job. It’s playing on repeat because of Keith’s.

I’m married to a high school choir director. Back when life was “normal,” Keith’s days were filled with rehearsals with his school’s Treble Choir and Mixed Choir, as well as a smaller audition-only ensemble called “Chorale.” When social-distancing guidelines and corona-related shutdowns prevented Keith from rehearsing in person with his choirs, he turned to technology.

Of course, there’s no easy way to conduct a virtual choir rehearsal. Zoom, Google Meet, and other video-chat platforms have a slight delay that prevents participants from singing together. Yet I married a man who loves technology and embraces challenge, a man who was determined to have a virtual choir experience.

He set to work, creating practice tracks and sharing his ideas with his students. They sent in audio and video recordings of themselves, recorded in twenty-four separate locations over the course of a week. Keith collected the recordings, mixed the audio, edited the video… and after hours and hours of an obsessive labor of love, his students were finally able “sing” together again.

And now, I share it with you… because their song is our prayer, in this season and every season.

O dear Lord, please hear our prayer.

Our God is bigger than coronavirus.
Our vision is bigger than coronavirus, too.
We are people blessing people.
We are Wesley Church.

Blessings,

Pastor Candy

Masking will remain optional at Wesley Church

In order to help you make an informed decision about your own mitigation practices, Wesley Church will share our county’s updated risk category and the CDC’s corresponding guidelines in each edition of our weekly enews.
We are currently in the “high risk” category. The CDC guidelines for the “high” category are:

Wear a mask indoors in public

Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines

Get tested if you have symptoms

Additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness
