“Jesus wept.”
– John 11:35, NIV
It happened just yesterday. Just yesterday, we passed the milestone, the somber milestone, the milestone we all knew was coming. As of yesterday afternoon, coronavirus has claimed more than 100,000 American lives.
In the wake of such loss… how else can I respond, but to pray? In one of the prayers of our United Methodist funeral liturgy, we read:
God of us all, your love never ends.
When all else fails, you still are God.
We pray to you for one another in our need,
and for all, anywhere, who mourn with us this day.
Receive “Name” into the arms of your mercy,
into the blessed rest of everlasting peace,
and into the glorious company of the saints of light.
Amen.
When all else fails, you still are God.
We pray to you for one another in our need,
and for all, anywhere, who mourn with us this day.
Receive “Name” into the arms of your mercy,
into the blessed rest of everlasting peace,
and into the glorious company of the saints of light.
Amen.
We don’t know each name, of course. We won’t ever know all the names. But we can pray the prayer. So pray the prayer with me, church. And then… repeat, again and again.
As you pray, hold to this truth:
Our God is bigger than coronavirus.
Our vision is bigger than coronavirus, too.
We are people blessing people.
We are Wesley Church.
Blessings,
Pastor Candy
