Daily Devotional July 16

16 Rejoice always,
17 pray without ceasing,
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
      – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NRSV

I’ll admit… from time to time, I’m tired of meeting online. “Screen fatigue,” I think it’s called. Now, most of my human interaction takes place via Zoom, with faces on a grid like a never-ending episode of Hollywood Squares. From time to time, I’m tired of it. I get frustrated. I grumble.

And then I give thanks. Thank you, Lord, for community… and for Zoom, and for Facebook, and for wifi, and for the electricity that makes the router work. Without them, I’d feel so isolated.

I’ll admit… every once in a while, I just want to go out to eat. I crave the real stuff, fresh from the restaurant kitchen. A good burger from some hip gastropub. Pancakes from a greasy-spoon diner. Those breadsticks from Olive Garden. Every once in a while, I’m tired of it. I get frustrated. I grumble.

And then I give thanks. Thank you, Lord, for food… and for curbside pickup, and for Instacart, and for the person who delivered my grocery order, and for gardens of summer abundance. Without them, I’d be hungry.

It’s a pandemic. We’re going to get tired. We’re going to get frustrated. We’re going to grumble.

And that’s okay… so long as we don’t also forget to give thanks, to give thanks in all circumstances (even the ones that cause us to grumble).

Give thanks, friends, and remember:

Our God is bigger than coronavirus.
Our vision is bigger than coronavirus, too.
We are people blessing people.
We are Wesley Church.

Blessings,

Pastor Candy

Masking will remain optional at Wesley Church

In order to help you make an informed decision about your own mitigation practices, Wesley Church will share our county’s updated risk category and the CDC’s corresponding guidelines in each edition of our weekly enews.
We are currently in the “high risk” category. The CDC guidelines for the “high” category are:

Wear a mask indoors in public

Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines

Get tested if you have symptoms

Additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness

Today’s Community Connections

  • If you are interested in providing fresh flowers for worship, please sign up at the Connections Corner table.
  • Feel like you missed something? The Connections Corner table can help. Head across the atrium and get the information you need just under the tv monitor.
  • Don’t receive our Weekly Enews? Please email Pastor Candy at: pastorcandy@wesleychurch.com to get on the list! Or sign up at the Connections Corner table.
  • Do you enjoy being creative with pictures and video?  Do you like telling a story through images?  We are looking for people who enjoy making videos, who can use technology to help represent some of the music we use in worship, and possibly other parts of the worship service such as announcements, testimonies, and more.  If this interests or excites you, please see Becky Graybeal for more details and to get plugged in!
