I turned the page on our wall calendar. July already?
I thought. How is that possible? And then it hit me: July already? I’ve been at Wesley for one full year now.
How is that possible?
Throughout this past year, church, we have worshipped together. We have gathered to sing praises and lift up our prayers. We have knelt at Christ’s table in communion and welcomed new members of God’s family in baptism. We have celebrated the wonder of Christmas Eve, the heartbreak of Good Friday, the triumph of Easter, and the Spirit-filled joy of Pentecost!
Throughout this past year, we have followed Christ in ministry. We have studied and prayed together. We have planned new ministries, embarked on new projects, and tried new things together. We have worked and served together. We have reached out and changed lives together!
Throughout this past year, we have shared our lives. We have laughed and we have cried. We have shared our joys and our struggles. We have said good-bye to those whom we have loved, and have welcomed new people into our lives and our families. We have even navigated a pandemic together!

I thank you for allowing me to be a part of all of this. As clergy, I’m mindful that our bishop ordains us and appoints us… but it’s the people in the local church who truly make us their pastor. So thank you, Wesley Church. Thank you for welcoming me into your lives, and allowing me to be your pastor. Thank you for embracing my family and making us part of this wonderful church. Thank you for inviting us to be people blessing people, too!
And thank you, in advance, for all that is to come.
… and remember:
Our God is bigger than coronavirus.
Our vision is bigger than coronavirus, too.
We are people blessing people.
We are Wesley Church.
Blessings,
Pastor Candy
