Community Garden

About Us

We have many dedicated gardeners from our Wesley membership and the larger community. Why not join us?

Wesley Church is a church in your neighborhood, dedicated to creating a garden experience that brings the larger Bethlehem community together with a common goal, the garden!  Our goal is to donate a minimum one half of the harvest raised by everyone to a local food pantry, making fresh vegetables more available to everyone.  Additionally, we would like to raise awareness about the importance of fresh, local produce through educational sessions.

Mission

Wesley Community Garden donates its produce to many worthy local organizations, including: Second Harvest, Trinity Soup Kitchen, NE Ministries, Catholic Charities and New Bethany Ministries.

The mission of the community garden is to provide fresh, nutritionally-rich, and local produce to area food pantries through growing and maintaining a garden that reflects the collective contribution of members of the community in which we live.  By fostering collaboration between community members young, old, and of different backgrounds, we together create a certain synergy that can serve as a springboard to deal with larger social concerns.  We strive to benefit and educate the most vulnerable members of our community with an eye to food security issues that affect us all.  We accomplish this in a healthy, organic way.

Interested in a garden plot? Cost is a one-time annual fee of $30. Gardeners share their bounty with the community by donating 50% of the harvest to feed the hungry.

Volunteers are always needed to tend to the garden and deliver food to area food banks and community centers.

Our garden team recently participated in a group planting project, and our little seeds are currently soaking up the sun in our church atrium. Check out the progress of our seedlings in the photo below. If you’re interested in growing things, consider signing up for a plot in our Wesley Community Garden.

Masking Update for Wesley Church

This week, the CDC moved Northampton County from the “low risk” category to the “high risk” category for COVID-19, bypassing the “medium” category. The CDC’s determinations are based on infection, hospitalization, and mortality rates. At Wesley Church, it is our policy to defer to CDC guidelines. The CDC guidelines for the “high” category are:

Wear a mask indoors in public

Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines

Get tested if you have symptoms

Additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness

For more information, visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/covid-by-county.html

Today’s Community Connections

  • If you are interested in providing fresh flowers for worship, please sign up at the Connections Corner table.
  • Feel like you missed something? The Connections Corner table can help. Head across the atrium and get the information you need just under the tv monitor.
  • Don’t receive our Weekly News? Please email Sue Kiefner at: SueK@wesleychurch.com to get on the list! Or sign up at the Connections Corner table.
  • Do you enjoy being creative with pictures and video?  Do you like telling a story through images?  We are looking for people who enjoy making videos, who can use technology to help represent some of the music we use in worship, and possibly other parts of the worship service such as announcements, testimonies, and more.  If this interests or excites you, please see Becky Graybeal for more details and to get plugged in!
