Sunday, May 27, “Spirit Children”
Trinity Sunday; Memorial Day Sunday
What (Who) makes us children of God? According to Romans, the Spirit of God. But it’s not that simple, for there is a command involved (without moving too close to a works righteousness mindset): We must put to death the deeds of the body – by the Spirit of God.
Pre-Service Video (coming)
Samuel’s classic “call” story is more than just a story about him. It’s about his inability to recognize the Lord’s voice, at least for a time. Without Eli, one wonders if he would’ve figured it out. It’s usually not an issue of hearing. It’s rather the ability to listen (to hear with understanding). How do we “listen” for the voice of God? Who helps us do that? And then, after listening, what is our response?
Sunday, May 20, Pentecost: “What Can This Mean?”
A Celebration of Church and Faith
Pentecost=Poured out power on all people. It‘s a Celebration of Church and Faith: confirmation, the birth of the Church and the 50th anniversary of the United Methodist Church will all be recognized and celebrated. There was something that occurred at Pentecost we don’t talk much about – confusion. At least for a few moments…wind, fire, speaking and hearing in different languages…must have been crazy! Luckily, Peter begins to explain: This is what happens when the Holy Spirit is given. The same is true for us – the church, our confirmands, etc. We need to answer the question… “What Can This Mean?”
